Young and foolish, the Ka-bar fighting knife it is not intended to be a bushcraft knife. It’s a fighting knife made for the military. It’s designed primarily for close combat situations when your rifle or handgun isn’t available or not appropriate to use. It’s a gut sticker. Besides I am old school, I can’t stand to watch anyone batoning a knife. An ax is more appropriate. Remember you can’t use a pair of pliers for a screw driver. The way you abused that fine knife should be classified as assault. It’s a great knife for its intended use. I will not watch you young men destroy the knife that saved thousands of lives in WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

Even when you have an axe, if you're exhausted, freezing cold, or in the dark, and you need a fire, motor control is reduced as is mental attention. Meaning sometimes a knife and a baton is a safer combo than swinging an axe and injuring yourself.
